Rafael Nadal Card Art

In honour of Rafael Nadal retiring yesterday I created a card to celebrate his career. This card is not associated with Star Wars Dex and thus cannot be caught, it is simply just a passion project. Nadal has long been my idol and inspiration, his mentality, physicality, intensity and passion both on and off court, in competitive matches or just training are always at a high standard which in my opinion makes him the epitome of sport.

The card design is inspired by the colours of Roland Garros, the grand slam which he won 14 times in his illustrious 20 year career. The orange clay was a surface which Nadal has become synonymous with (as noted by his nickname the “King of Clay”). Roland Garros’ logo also encompasses a dark green colour which inspired the tennis court in the upper half of the card which also references his skill on grass (having won Wimbledon twice). Additionally, the base of the Eiffel Tower rises from the clay and tall above the court referencing Roland Garros’ home in France. Finally, the Nadal bull logo takes centre stage on the clay adding a personal touch of Nadal beyond the clay. The Nadal image used in this card is Rafa holding the coupe de mosquetaires (the trophy of Roland Garros) having just won his record 14th Roland Garros title in 2022 (for reference, Pete Sampras won a total of 14 Grand Slam titles during his career while Rafa has won the same Grand slam 14 times and has a total grand slam count of 22).
